Car registration/tuning track cars in SK

Štvrtok, 8. Októbra 2020, 09:46

Hello!

Long time no see! After selling my e46 and sticking for a while with "casual daily driver" (not BMW), I'm going to situation, where I could have normal space where I can have fun with more serious project car.

With that I have some questions, because having it on PL plates will have some downsides (1-per year traveling over 600km for getting technical inspection, etc.).

1. How SK laws are corresponding with tuning of car? What can I change to still pass inspection? Can I put coilovers, wider wheels/tires? What about Engine swaps (Rx-8 with K20 engine...) or brake swaps? Still thinking about another E46 but in sedan for a track usage and getting it with maybe smaller engine and then swap something bigger.

2. How laws see tuned car that will be imported from another EU country (PL, DE? because market in SK is really small, and for example getting MR2, GT86, IS200 is impossible)? Is there respected eu law where "car was registered in other eu country it's legal in every eu country"?

Thanks for help guys.

Hey mate, welcome back :-)

1. about the laws/rules in this country, well its not easy.. its way more diffficult than in poland, thats for sure, so:
- coilovers - no problem here
- wider wheels - no problem
- wider tires - could be a problem, if you dont have the size in your vehicle registration card, but that depends on what kind of cop you get caught by, he doesnt even have to notice that, or the other kind, which will make a fucking rigorous test of your whole vehicle down to high vis jacket and first aid kit.
- engine swap - absolutely impossible to get legalized here. they are being done, but in E46 for example if you swap M54B22 for M54B30 there is almost no way of knowing you actually have a swap..
- brake swap - shouldnt be any issue

2. yeah, we import cars all the time, there are even companies that are doing it, from all over the europe, even usa. that is possible. i have a buddy who imported few rare cars from japan too

3. you actually dont have to ask any of these questions, if you are really running the car on polish plates, you can give the cops a big middle finger and drive what is actually legal in your country with your laws. i dont think they can take your plates for having a modified car, only thing i think they can do is maybe tow it away, and return it to your country, like they did multiple times in germany, when the guys from UK with their cars went to worthersee through germany, and many of them got caught on border checks, with german cops especially aiming on such cars, and they were left without the cars :-D but i dont think any cop would go through that..

Thanks for reply.
I was actually thinking about something 90% track usage (10% would be getting to track),

Ok so Engine swaps are nono, so If I'll buy Rx8, I cannot put honda Kseries (which is probably best 4-banger out there now)

and Actually that 3-rd point with Worthese. My friend was actually there couple of times and he always have translated EU law, where if car is registered in 1 eu country - ut's legal in all eu countries. So even If I'll do something very stupid with my car in PL, but have current technical inspection - I'm legal.

But still driving back and forth for technical inspection to PL would be a struggle. But 1-day in year struggle so I need to rethink that :D
